Integrated design and control of reactive distillation processes using the driving force approach

Superior controllability of reactive distillation (RD) systems, designed at the maximum driving force (design-control solution) is demonstrated in this article. Binary or multielement single double feed RD systems are considered. Reactive phase equilibrium data, needed for analysis and design system, generated through an in-house property prediction tool. Rigorous steady-state simulation carried out ASPEN plus order to verify that predefined targets dynamics met. A multiobjective performance function employed evaluate system terms energy consumption, sustainability metrics (total CO2 footprint), control performance. Controllability evaluated using indices like relative gain array (RGA) Niederlinski index (NI), degree loop interaction, as well dynamic simulations proportional-integral (PI) controllers model predictive (MPC). The design-control corresponding other alternative designs do not take advantage also investigated. shows exhibit enhanced lower carbon footprint than designs.
